Herding

Back Home Up

Pharaohs Herding?  YES!  It's true.  Although not a herding breed (by definition), the breed CAN herd and DOES have the natural instinct to do so.  They were used as makeshift herding dogs in their native land of Malta, although, as one might suspect, this was not their main purpose.  Nevertheless, they can do it and they certainly enjoy it.  Since they are not technically a herding breed, they cannot compete in herding trials and events, however, there is a title offered to any and all breeds that is earned through demonstrated herding instinct: HIC (Herding Instinct Certified).  A number of Pharaoh Hounds are proud holders of this title.

We Pharaoh Hound owners of the Pacific NW got together one day for some herding fun.  The herding day was quite successful, with most of the Pharaohs earning their HIC titles.  The superb pictures below, taken that day, were shot by DogsInMotion Photography.
